Clinical Protocols
Elimination diets are medical tools, not lifestyle choices. They should be followed strictly for a short duration (usually 2-6 weeks) followed by systematic reintroduction.
The Low FODMAP Diet
Gold Standard for IBSDeveloped by Monash University, this protocol targets short-chain carbohydrates (Fermentable Oligosaccharides, Disaccharides, Monosaccharides, and Polyols) that are poorly absorbed in the small intestine.
Best for:
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
- Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO)
- Severe bloating and gas
Low Histamine Diet
For Systemic SymptomsTargets the reduction of dietary histamine and histamine-liberating foods. Often used when the DAO enzyme is insufficient to break down histamine in the gut.
Best for:
- Histamine Intolerance (HIT)
- Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS)
- Post-meal hives, headaches, or rapid heart rate
The Elemental Diet
Clinical ResetA liquid diet containing pre-digested nutrients (amino acids, simple sugars, vitamins) that absorb in the very beginning of the small intestine, starving overgrown bacteria further down.
Best for:
- Refractory SIBO (failure of antibiotics)
- Severe IBD flares (Crohn's disease)
